Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash Shuts Down I-24 West for Hours Early Friday
ROBERTSON/CHEATHAM COUNTY TENNESSEE (Smokey Barn News) – A five-vehicle crash on I-24 West claimed one life and critically injured another early Friday morning.
According to Fire Marshal Ricky Read with the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department, the crash occurred near mile marker 28 on the westbound side of the interstate. Upon arrival, first responders found five vehicles involved, including two pickup trucks (one towing a trailer loaded with two mopeds) and three passenger vehicles, the first call coming into 911 at 12:50 a.m. Two of the vehicles had left the roadway and came to rest in the median. Read estimated the debris field extended roughly 60 to 70 yards. All vehicles sustained significant damage.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s preliminary report, the crash began when a 2018 Dodge Ram 1500, traveling westbound on Interstate 24 near the 28.6 mile marker in lane one, sideswiped the rear passenger side of a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze and the rear driver side of a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. The Dodge Ram then struck a 2018 Cadillac XT5 at an angle, followed by a front-to-rear collision with a 2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer.
The Dodge Ram and the Cadillac both left the roadway to the left and came to rest in the tree line. The passenger in the Cadillac XT5, identified as Dionysus Huey, age 21, from Tennessee, was not wearing a seatbelt and was fatally injured. According to a source, Huey was a passenger in an Uber en route to his home in Clarksville at the time of the crash.
The 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 was driven by Bretton A. Joy of Tennessee. He was injured in the crash. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
The interstate remained shut down for several hours. Fire Marshal Read estimated that Pleasant View units cleared the scene around 6:00 a.m., with the roadway still closed at that time.
Responding agencies included the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department, the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, and EMS units from both Robertson and Cheatham counties due to the location near the county line.
The crash remains under investigation.
