MILLERSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Authorities in Millersville are asking for the public's help in finding an armed suspect that robbed motorists near the interstate.
According to the Millersville Police Department, the latest incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Monday, June 16.
Officials said two motorists were traveling to White House, pulled off Interstate 65 due to a flat fire and stopped on Bethel Road near Cycle Lane.
According to the 31-year-old driver, a black Honda zoomed toward him with its bright lights on. While the victims were outside looking at the tire, a masked man allegedly approached them.
Bodycam footage obtained by News 2 shows the moments as an officer approached the victims' in their vehicle.
"What's going on?" the officer could be heard asking on bodycam video.
"We're a little shaken up," replied the victim. "The tire pressure came on so I got off on this exit. We got out to look and the tire basically has a nail in it."
The victim said he couldn't see well because of the bright lights, but believed the suspect was armed with a weapon.
"All of a sudden a car just rushed up in front of us, so we look up and someone jumps out and says, 'Get down,'" recalled the victim. "We assume there was a gun in their hand. I didn't physically see it, but he said, 'Get down,' and we just froze and got down."
After stealing their cash, a gold chain and watches, the masked suspect disappeared. The men reportedly told officers they believe a semi-truck driving by may have spooked the suspect.
"During that time, an 18-wheeler passed the vehicle, and when the truck passed, the suspect fled and left the area," said Officer RJ Carter with the Millersville Police Department.
According to Millersville police, there was a similar incident that happened in the area a few days earlier. However, it remains unclear if the incidents are connected.
"Why is this important to catch someone doing this in your community?" asked News 2's Andy Cordan.
"We want to show those individuals we don't tolerate this in the city of Millersville," responded Carter. "Always keep your head on a swivel, 360 degrees. You might not think people are watching you, but this person was watching them. Criminals are criminals, and they are going to do what criminals do."
Authorities believe someone passing by the area may have seen something. If you have any information about the incident, call Millersville police.
