SMYRNA, Tenn. (WKRN) — TDOT is warning drivers to prepare for heavy construction in one area of Rutherford County as they work on several road improvements.
The safety project on Jefferson Pike in Smyrna has kicked off and TDOT is preparing to stay on track completing the project. The safety improvements are apart of ongoing partnership between TDOT and the Town of Smyrna for their Lowry Street (SR-1) and Sam Ridley Parkway (SR-266) Interchange Improvement.
They work will begin on Murfreesboro Rd & S Lowry St from Jefferson Pike to near Sam Ridley Parkway. The project will improve ramps from Sam Ridley Parkway on to Lowry Street. On and off ramps are scheduled to be realigned, and traffic signals will be added to the interchange ramps and Murfreesboro Rd and Jefferson Pike intersection. TDOT officials say this is apart of their Interchange Improvements plans with the city as they continue to make the road safer for the community.
The work is expected to take almost a year to complete. The completion date is set for late spring/early summer of 2026.
