NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Vanderbilt University has shared a look into its plan to reimagine part of its Midtown campus with a space that welcomes the entire Nashville community.
The renderings include the redevelopment of 40 acres near West End Avenue, most of which are currently used as parking lots.
The new mixed-use space will include a combination of research and innovation facilities, alongside retail, housing, hospitality and green spaces.
The university said its goal is to create a "dynamic and livable neighborhood with ample green space, pedestrian pathways and places to meet and linger." The area will be open to the entire Nashville community.
University officials shared the following statement with News 2:
We have long had a reputation as one of the nation’s leading research institutions· We want to lean more heavily into creating space that would enable us to pair Vanderbilt research with a rich start-up ecosystem made up of local companies and entrepreneurs that positions Nashville as the place where the best and brightest minds are working together to solve some of the world’s toughest challenges. We are in the early stages, but we intend to pursue a mixed-use development focused on innovation that would include a combination of world-class research and innovation facilities alongside retail, housing, hospitality, and open and greenspaces that would welcome the Nashville community.
