FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) — A former Franklin soccer coach accused of raping over a dozen unconscious boys and recording his actions has pleaded guilty to child exploitation and immigration offenses, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Tennessee.
Officials said Camilo Campos-Hurtado, 65, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, one count of receiving visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, one count of using or possessing fraudulent immigration documents, and one count of possessing an identification document or authentication feature which was stolen or produced without lawful authority.
According to a previous News 2 report, the investigation into Campos began after staff members at Marco's Pizza on Mallory Lane reportedly found a cellphone left behind by a customer on June 22, 2023. When employees looked through the phone to find who it belonged to, they discovered dozens of “unconscionable videos and pictures of children,” officials said.
Authorities said detectives found hundreds of “disturbing” videos and photos on the phone, many of which involved Campos recording himself as he raped unconscious boys between the ages of 9 and 17.
In addition to the cellphone, authorities said Campos had other electronic devices that contained "countless images of child sexual abuse material that he received, downloaded and produced between 2017 and 2021."
The 65-year-old faces on mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and maximum sentence of life in federal prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 29, 2025.
“Campos preyed on children in our community for years, using his position to gain the trust of his victims only to betray them by sexually abusing them,” said Robert E. McGuire, Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee. “Protecting children in our community and holding child sex offenders to maximum accountability is among the highest priorities of our office and of the Department of Justice. At sentencing we will seek to guarantee that Campos does not have any chance to hurt another child.”
The DOJ said Campos does not have legal status in the United States, and will be deported to Mexico after he serves his federal and state sentences.
No additional information was immediately released.
