NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The family of Anna Pierce, the 30-year-old woman who police believe was shot by her husband in a murder-suicide, said there were no warning signs that he would kill her.
"My friend was just with them the day before, and he couldn't believe it either. He couldn't understand why it happened,” Anna’s brother Humza Darbashi told News 2.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said the married couple died in an apparent murder-suicide at a condo in West Nashville.
Authorities said the investigation revealed Anna and her husband, 46-year-old Steven Pierce, were arguing about divorce and financial issues before he shot her. Investigators reportedly recovered a revolver from under Steven at the scene.
Anna was a "beloved" biology teacher and tennis coach at Hunters Lane High School. Her mother, Lora Darbashi, said the couple now leaves behind three daughters. According to the family, Anna was the mother of two young girls, ages 2 and 4 years old; she was also the adopted mother of her husband’s 17-year-old daughter.
Anna's family describes Anna as strong, outgoing and always wanting to help other people in the community.
“She lives on with us. She lives on through all of us,” Humza said.
MNPD investigators said their domestic violence division had no prior involvement with the couple. The family also told News 2 they saw no red flags that Anna might be in danger.
"Anyone who thinks to pick up a gun needs to take a second thought because once that's pulled, there's no second thought,” Lora told News 2.

As a result of this case, the Metro Council wants to add a detective to the MNPD to supervise a division of domestic violence cases. Among other things, the detective would remove guns in an "order of protection" situation.
