SMITHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man wanted in Indiana for multiple sex crimes against children was recently taken into custody after a U.S. Marshals task force found him in Smithville, Tennessee.

The U.S. Marshals Service said a warrant was issued for 47-year-old Michael Denton in the Superior Court of Marion County, Indiana on May 7, charging him with three counts of child molesting with intercourse and four counts of child molesting.

Two days after the warrant was issued, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department reportedly requested assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service to find Denton and learned that he was residing in the Smithville area.

On Wednesday, May 14 the U.S. Marshals Service Middle Tennessee Fugitive Task Force found Denton at a home on McMinnville Highway in Smithville. Officials said the 47-year-old was arrested and taken to the DeKalb County Jail where he was booked as a fugitive from justice.

"The U.S. Marshals Service is committed to protecting the most vulnerable in our communities by apprehending dangerous fugitives," the task force wrote in a release about the arrest.

Denton is reportedly waiting for extradition back to Indiana. No additional details were released.
