MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) — On Monday night, a vote was held to discuss the new home for a senior center in Wilson County.
In a unanimous vote, the Mt. Juliet Board of Commissioners approved a new lease for the Mt. Juliet Senior Activity Center at 1019 Charlie Daniels Parkway — the current site of the Mt. Juliet police precinct — on first reading. The center will feature several items for seniors, including: a kitchen, meeting room, a large activity space, art room, game room, and exercise room and several other various amenities.
The police department is currently still in the building, but plans to relocate once their new headquarters is complete. However, Mt. Juliet's mayor said he's preparing for officers to stay a while in the old building, even after the new one gets built.
"There's one thing that's been brought to my attention, [which] is the potential that the police may have to stay in the building a little longer than anticipated," Maness said at the meeting. "Simply due to [the fact that] we can't get a guaranteed lockdown date on the communications lines."
The next step is approving the center at Mt. Juliet Planning Commission's next meeting, which will be held on July 28.
