NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — There's some major opposition from one community when it comes to a rezoning proposal in Antioch.

Residents are planning to rally on the Metro Courthouse steps this evening to voice their concerns.

The issue is over 23 acres of land along Franklin Limestone Road just off Antioch Pike near Mill Creek.

Metro Council is proposing to rezone it for industrial use. The land sits next to a large stone quarry.

Residents say the narrow road is already dangerous thanks to large construction trucks taking trips to the quarry.

The new proposal would add even more construction vehicles to the road.

Neighbors have also expressed concern about the lack of guardrails along Franklin Limestone Road.

They claim cars frequently end up in the ditch.

Residents are asking Metro to improve the road before approving any new industrial sites.

"We're concerned about these things; we're concerned about how quickly this bill has been going through our government without a whole lot of accountability, without a whole lot of interaction from our metro council member," rally organizer Jason Miller said.

News 2 has reached out to Councilmember David Benton, who represents that area.

As of publication, he has not responded to requests for comment.
