CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Tennessee Valley Authority is no longer considering a potential site on Lockertsville Road in Cheatham County for a new methane plant.
According to TVA officials, the site off Lockertsville Road is "no longer TVA's preferred alternative."
The announcement comes after significant public outcry against the proposal from Cheatham County residents, including country music artist John Rich, who said he spoke with President Donald Trump to consider a new area for the plant.
However, the TVA is still evaluating the nearby industrial park as a potential site, as well as other sites across Middle Tennessee, the energy company said in a release.
The company is conducting comprehensive National Environmental Police Act reviews of potential sites across Middle Tennessee, including Cheatham County.
TVA said it still plans to build its natural gas portfolio, with 6,200 megawatts of "new generation" planned and 3,570 megawatts currently under construction.
The energy provider also said it expects regulatory changes in the future, which will open up other potential options.
