NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — One of the biggest food banks in Middle Tennessee is in desperate need of funds after federal cuts to its annual budget.

The cuts could also have a direct impact on multiple Middle Tennessee neighborhoods.

Nourish Food Bank said it spends a little more than $40,000 a month to keep their three buildings running along with all of their food programs.

Executive Director Norman Hanks told News 2 they have about $40,000 left in their bank account.

The three locations serve Smyrna and Murfreesboro in Rutherford County and the Glencliff area of Nashville.

Nourish feeds over 2 million people a year, or 3,500 people a month, which is 73,000 meals a month.

However, Hanks said their resources have been cut by about 15%.

To make up for the loss, Nourish recently launched a social media campaign, asking 1,000 people to donate $100 dollars to help build up their bank.

According to Hanks, it isn't a permanent solution, but it would help them survive for now.

"We have about a month left that we can afford to keep feeding folks and keeping our neighbors fed before we have to start looking at other options," Hanks said.
