GALLATIN, Tenn. (WKRN) — After a four-day trial, a Sumner County jury returned guilty verdicts against a man arrested in connection with a deadly 2023 shooting.
Between 7:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. on Monday, May 29, 2023, 16-year-old Amare Parker was shot and killed near River Road in Gallatin. Less than 24 hours later, Gallatin police recovered a vehicle connected to the homicide and arrested Marco Antonio Roman Aznar in connection with the case.
On Friday, Thomas Dean — District Attorney General for Sumner County — announced that a jury found him guilty of both second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.
"We are deeply grateful to the Gallatin Police Department for their swift response and thorough investigation, and to the jurors who gave this case their full attention and delivered justice," Dean said in a Facebook post about the case.
Aznar's sentencing has been set for Dec. 8, and Dean added that the DA's office "remains committed to protecting our community and standing up for victims," so they "will continue seeking the maximum punishment allowed under Tennessee law."
