DEKALB COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — An investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed while DeKalb County deputies attempted to serve a warrant in Alexandria.
According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, Saturday night, two deputies arrived at a residence on Goodner Lane to serve a court-ordered warrant to Gary Ray Ashford, 48.
DCSD said Ashford pulled out a weapon and approached the deputies, at which point they opened fire toward him. Ashford died at the scene.
Officials said the Smithville Police Department assisted during the incident.
The District Attorney’s Office was notified, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation. No additional details were released.
