NOLENSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Nolensville Police Department is rolling out a new bicycle unit to help serve the Town and engage with the community on a more personal level.
"We want to be able to talk to you, find out what's going on, and we want you to know we're out there and we're concerned and looking out for everyone's safety,” NPD Lt. Josh Combs told News 2.
Thanks to a donation from Mercedes-Benz of Music City, the NPD is now equipped with three bicycles. By riding bikes, NPD officials said officers can patrol special events more easily and respond to emergencies in difficult terrain faster.
"It cuts down the walk time or UTV trying to cut through a crowd can be problematic and dangerous, so the bike allows you to get through the crowds quicker and safer," Combs added. "We also have a lot of walking trails here, so if we have a missing person or a medical emergency on a trail, and we're out riding, we can obviously get on that trail and get to them much quicker than just walking."
Four of the department's existing officers will be part of the new bike unit to take community policing to a new level.
"Public safety is our top priority at NPD, and we are always looking at new ways that we can serve our community, so this is just one more way that we're going to be able to respond and provide the highest level of service to our community,” NPD Sgt. Christina Sabol told News 2.
