NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A woman has been charged with criminal homicide and gun possession by a convicted felon after a deadly shooting occurred Saturday night in the Napier area of Nashville.
According to a news release from the Metro Nashville Police Department, 42-year-old Nerika N. Patton was charged in the deadly shooting of 50-year-old Shereca M. Waters in the 80 block of Fain Street.
Authorities said that the investigation revealed Patton and Waters were involved in an argument that became physical. Waters reportedly punched Patton in the face, then Patton allegedly pulled a gun and shot Waters before leaving the area, according to the MNPD.
Police said Waters died Sunday morning at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Detectives with the MNPD's Specialized Investigations Division arrested Patton on South 4th Street.
According to the MNPD, Patton told investigators that she threw the gun into the Cumberland River because she is a convicted felon from a 2008 robbery case.
Patton is being held without bond pending a hearing, according to the MNPD.
