DICKSON, Tenn. (WKRN) — Dickson police are searching for a person caught on video dumping a dog near a stranger's front door.
The dog was in desperate need of care when it was found.
A woman in a white Jeep is seen on home security cameras parking outside and dumping a dog on a front lawn.
The homeowners found the dog and called the police.
"He was completely matted," Dickson County Humane Society Assistant Director Kaylee Morton said. "He was having problems using the bathroom. It was getting stuck in his fur."
As of July 1, it's a misdemeanor to abandon an animal in Tennessee.
While investigators figure out who the woman is, the shelter is taking care of the older Shih Tzu, whom they named Gerald.
Dickson County Humane Society staff members said it's obvious Gerald was a pet.
"We're waiting on labs to come back to see what's going on with him," Morton said. "He has a skin infection. We're treating him with antibiotics, and he's getting routine baths."
It'll be about three weeks before Gerald can be fostered or adopted, according to Dickson County Humane Society staff.
In the meantime, the shelter said they're dealing with overcrowding and can use volunteers. They also need monetary donations.
