CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — An area in southeast Clarksville could be getting a new park facility and it's all thanks to a potential land donation. Clarksville leaders are hoping once the donation is finalized, the community will receive a park it deserves.
According to Clarksville Now, around 16 acres of land could be donated to create a new park, which could possibly include a baseball field. John T. Rochford of Nashville has agreed to donate the land that sits off Tylertown Road. Ward 12 Councilmember, Keri Lovato, said this is something she's been asking the Parks and Recreation Department about for years. Right now, there is no park facility or much green space left in her area.
Lavato said she's confident the department will design a park that enhances the area without disturbing the surrounding nature and be a "blessing" to her neighbors. Residents have even started reaching out to her with ideas.
The councilwoman said Rochford's decision to donate the land for further for public use shows a continued commitment to the neighborhood and to Clarksville as a whole.
Clarksville Parks and recs leaders says there are no plans for the proposed park yet, but once the donation is final they'll begin the planning process.
