NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A decommissioned sergeant with the Metro Nashville Police Department has resigned after a fraud indictment, officials announced Monday.
According to a news release from the MNPD, 40-year-old Sharissa Perez resigned after being indicted by the Davidson County Grand Jury on charges of theft and tampering with government records for falsely claiming and receiving overtime payments over multiple shifts. She had worked in the MNPD's School Safety Division.
The MNPD's Office of Professional Accountability began an internal investigation into allegations of Perez committing time-accounting violations and sent those concerns to the department's fraud unit, the release said. The department decommissioned her on Feb. 14 while the investigations were conducted.
According to MNPD, Perez was found to have falsely claimed to have worked overtime "during partial amounts of 15 shifts between September 2024 and January 2025, resulting in an unearned $1,244.75."
Perez was released from jail Monday on a $2,500 bond, according to officials. The MNPD release said she had been with the department for 11 years.
