NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Walk bike Nashville officially has new dates for their Open Streets Summer Series. The event was postponed more than a week ago due to last-minute changes.

This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the Open Streets Summer Series and Walk Bike leaders say its their biggest event yet.

The series will take place in a 5-mile loop around downtown. Leaders of Walk Bike Nashville say the event allows people to re-imagine the streets by closing them up to cars and opening them up so people can walk, bike, skateboard, run and more. Part of the route will include 11th Avenue in the Gulch, where the event first took place. Leaders say they made the decision to reschedule based off last minute factors, which included safety and making sure locals could come downtown and enjoy it.

Programs Director at Walk Bike Nashville, Wesley Smith, says he wants the event to demonstrate what a complete and safe network can look like downtown for people choosing alternative modes of transportation.

"That's the whole intention of this is for it to be a blank canvas," Smith says. We're using our streets as public spaces and for Nashvillians to enjoy them."

The Open Streets Summer Series will be held July 20, August 17 and September 7 from noon to five. Everyone is invited to come out and no registration is required.
