LEBANON, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man has been arrested after he allegedly shot into a vehicle and engaged in a standoff with officers, according to the Lebanon Police Department.
According to an LPD Facebook post, the shooting occurred Monday night near East Main Street and Carthage Highway. A person reported that they were shot at by a person riding as a passenger in another vehicle while stopped at a red light.
Investigators determined the shooting was unprovoked, and officers later found the suspect's vehicle at a local motel, the post said.
According to LPD, investigators identified Montelito "Loco" Johnson as a potential suspect.
On Tuesday, officers were dispatched to a report of a man and woman arguing in the parking lot at the Plaza 231 Inn. Officers arrived and found the man and woman yelling at one another, and they matched the description, according to LPD.
Police said an officer tried speaking with the man and woman, and the man began walking toward one of the motel rooms. He tried closing the door on the officer but couldn't. Officers asked him to identify himself, and he said his name was Montelito Johnson and closed to the door.
LPD's post said officers then established a perimeter around the hotel room, and dispatch notified administrators at Kids World Daycare, Coles Ferry, Sam Houston and Walter J. Baird Middle School to go on a soft lockdown because the schools were holding summer programs.
Police then determined no further lockdowns were necessary as Johnson was contained to just one room and did not have a secondary exit, the post said.
LPD's hostage negotiation team arrived on the scene and communicated with Johnson. About 20 minutes later, he left the room and was taken into custody, according to the post.
