SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WKRN) — Last month, Spring Hill hit the pause button on sewer access for any new developments.
City leaders said the moratorium gives them time to address issues in the area.
Part of those fixes could include converting the property on Derryberry Lane into a new reservoir. Developers had planned to build 1,200 residential units on the property.
But now, Spring Hill leaders want to go in a different direction to address their water issues.
The property off Derryberry Lane will be used for a reservoir system, which will help the city's ongoing water project efforts, including its advanced purification project.
The City of Spring Hill is nearing the limit for its intake and outflow of water. City leaders are trying to find ways to maximize water use, so they're trying to get the most water they can from Duck River.
Spring Hill Mayor Matt Fitterer said the new utility system will provide long-term water and wastewater capacity for the City of Spring Hill for decades to come.
“While we have the pause, we’re gonna take advantage of the pause to revisit the zoning documents, long-range planning documents and ensure when we come out of this sewer connection moratorium, we’re well positioned as a city to thrive for many years to come,” Fitterer said.
This was only the first reading on these new property zoning changes. The next meeting will be on Sept. 15.
