Gunfire Erupts at Two Springfield Locations Early Sunday

SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Springfield Police are investigating two separate incidents involving gunfire that occurred early Sunday morning, May 18, leaving multiple vehicles damaged. No injuries have been reported as of this release.

The first incident unfolded just after 12:30 a.m. on Moreland Drive when officers responded to a shots-fired call. At least four or five vehicles were struck, and a firearm was recovered at the scene. Witnesses told Smokey Barn News that while officers were still present, additional gunfire was heard nearby. Though not officially confirmed, multiple sources indicate this second round of shots may have occurred within earshot of officers already working the scene.

All individuals involved fled before police could make contact, and no arrests have been made.

Roughly one hour later, at 1:37 a.m., police responded to a second location — the Big Lots/Belk parking lot on Memorial Boulevard. Officers recovered multiple shell casings at that scene. Investigators have not confirmed whether the two incidents are related, but the time frame and proximity suggest a likely connection. Proximity MAP

Springfield Police have not released any suspect information and continue to follow up on leads.

Smokey Barn News did receive numerous calls from concerned citizens reporting both incidents. Shots-fired reports are not uncommon in Robertson County — especially when you consider the rural nature of the area. Most often, these calls don’t amount to much; however, as more information came in, it became clear these incidents warranted reporting.

While the motives remain unclear, the timing, distance, and nature of both scenes suggest the possibility of a connection and tension between rival elements. That aspect remains speculative at this time, but authorities are expected to examine all angles.

Overall, Springfield has seen a noticeable decline in violent crime in recent years, making Sunday morning’s activity stand out. Investigators are working to determine what triggered the gunfire and whether the events are part of a broader pattern.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Springfield Police. (615) 384-8422.

Smokey Barn News will continue to monitor the case and provide updates as new information becomes available.
