NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Up-to-date insulation is key to keeping your energy costs down and your home comfortable, but not everyone can afford the upkeep.
That's why Nashville Electric Service is offering free attic insulation for some.
The offer is coming just in time for some of Nashville's hottest months, and it's the first time NES has offered this service for free.
To qualify, you have to be at least 60 years old, an NES customer, and own a single-family home.
There are also income stipulations depending on how many people live inside the home, those numbers can be found on the NES website.
The electric company says as a pilot program, they're paying close attention to how this goes and will adjust next year if they need to make any changes.
NES is choosing 80 customers to help out this summer.
The reason they're choosing seniors is because they are most vulnerable to temperature changes.
"We thought the older population would benefit most from that comfort level and we knew that there were seniors in the community who may want this but may not have the financial means to do so," NES Sustainability Manager Kathryn Pohlman said.
Eligible seniors can apply for the program through July 31.
