Description

JOELTON, Tenn. (WKRN) — More than 100 dogs have been rescued from an apparent animal hoarding case in Joelton.

The Cheatham County Sheriff's Office is assisting Cheatham County Animal Control and the Animal Rescue Corps at a residence along the 1000 block of Johns Road in Joelton. The Animal Rescue Corps said that at least one dog was confirmed dead and several others were rushed to an emergency veterinarian hospital.

The rescue effort, dubbed "Operation Breaking Point" by the Animal Rescue Corps, said that rescuers have to wear protective gear inside the home due to high ammonia levels. Yorkshire terriers, Maltese, Havanese, poodles and "designer" mixes were recovered from the residence — all living in what the Animal Rescue Corps called "extremely neglectful conditions."

The dogs rescued from the property will be taken to the Animal Rescue Corps' rescue center in Gallatin "shortly," the organization said. The director of Cheatham County Animal Control told News 2 that the residence may have been a puppy mill that escalated into an animal hoarding case.

According to Cheatham County Sheriff Tim Binkley, no arrests have been made at this time.

News 2 has sent a crew to the scene. The Animal Rescue Corps said that more details would be made available soon.
