NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 24-year-old man was arrested after a naked woman jumped out of a moving vehicle to escape a kidnapping attempt in South Nashville Thursday.
Officers were called to a gas station in the 3500 block of Murfreesboro Pike around 12:45 a.m. for a burglary alarm. When officers arrived, they found a naked woman covered in severe abrasions who needed immediate medical assistance, according to court documents.
She was taken to an area hospital where she was interviewed by investigators.
The victim told officers she had been arguing with her ex-boyfriend for hours before he ripped her clothes off and tried to strangle her. According to Metro police, he then pointed an AR-15-style rifle at her and forced her to get in his car.
While in the vehicle, he reportedly told her he was taking her to J. Percy Priest Lake to "watch her drown," which put her in fear for her life since she does not know how to swim.
He continued driving while punching her and strangling her with both hands while the vehicle was stopped, according to court documents.
The victim then jumped from the moving vehicle and ran toward a gas station for help as they were traveling on Murfreesboro Pike.
While the suspect turned around to search for her, the victim hid in a thorn bush until she was safe to run inside the store. She hid in the back of the store until officers arrived.
Metro police identified the suspect as 24-year-old Marquintis Jenkins, who was booked into the Metro jail and charged with attempted criminal homicide, felony aggravated assault, kidnapping, theft, harassment and vandalism. His bond was set at $260,000.
