NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Several Metro Nashville Public Schools have brand-new turf thanks to a partnership with the Tennessee Titans.
Antioch High School and Hunters Lane High school are just two of 15 MNPS locations to receive new fields as part of an ongoing project that aims to make sure student-athletes have safe, durable fields to play.
Coach Arcentae Broome, Antioch High School's head football coach, told News 2 he's extremely grateful for the new field, to serve all student-athletes.
On Wednesday, a crew was putting together the finishing touches on the stadium's running track together. Broome remembered days spent having to paint the field for games.
Turf fields require less maintenance than grass fields, giving Broome more time to focus on his team.
"The Titans have been a partner of MNPS for years, and Dr. Adrienne Battle has been a big supporter of athletics," Broome said. "She was one of the main ones that was a catalyst to bring turf fields."
Pearl Cohn High School was the first school to receive a new field back in 2023, and then-mayor John Cooper attended the opening of the field.
This field also serves as a confidence booster for students.
"Your athletes always say, 'If you look good, you play good,'" Broome said.
