MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Tennessee-founded chain Cracker Barrel has scrapped its new interior design model roll out nationwide, but the Mt. Juliet location has already been updated to the "modern" style for more than a year.

Last May, News 2 got an exclusive inside look at the remodel, where customers could see the simpler decor, brighter lighting, and more contemporary country theme.

"It's kind of that modern farmhouse that's really kind of neat," James Bowman, a diner at Cracker Barrel told News 2. "It's not as cluttered, but it still has all the charm and the flare of the old Cracker Barrel."

The remodel is a change from the original style featuring more dark wood tones, low lighting, and a more rustic, Southern Counrty store aesthetic.

"I like the old one better because I eat at Cracker Barrel once a week or whatever and the food is great. I just like the old way they did it with the souvenirs and all that stuff, too,” Britt Linville, another diner at Cracker Barrel, told News 2. “...The country guy sitting in a rocking chair. I remember my grand daddy used to do that."

Other diners said the newer model in Mt. Juliet should stay.

"We've been to the Cracker Barrel a couple of times since they've done the change and we love it. It's not as cluttered. It's a lot more bright. They've renovated everything, and honestly, I don't understand what the big deal was,” Bowman added.

News 2 reached out to Cracker Barrel's corporate office through multiple channels about the future of the Mt. Juliet store, but the emails didn't deliver and calls went to voicemail.
