Description
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) โ A Nashville teenager has been identified as the person killed in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 West overnight.
The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. Saturday near Spence Lane, and shut down the interstate for several hours during an investigation.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, driver 17-year-old Chance Lee Kimbro and a passenger were in a Ford Fusion heading west on I-40 when the car rear-ended a semi-truck.
The Ford reportedly rotated several times, ejecting Kimbro from the vehicle. He then fell onto the roadway and was struck by another vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said the passenger -- who has not yet been identified -- attempted to leave with another driver who stopped to assist at the crash site. He fled the scene before officers arrived.
Authorities reported that before the collision, witnesses saw the Ford driving at high speeds and switching lanes. No evidence of drugs or alcohol was found at the scene.
Metro Police said the vehicle was reported stolen just hours earlier at 6:15 p.m. from a residence in Whites Creek.
No additional information was immediately released.
