Description
MEIGS COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) -- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reported a "Chickamauga boating fatality" Sunday involving a young man from Putnam County.
Without disclosing exactly where the incident took place, the TWRA said its officers joined local authorities in responding to a call shortly after 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 4.
According to officials, preliminary reports show that Austin Sigh, 21, of Monterey, "entered the water to aid in loading an older, 16-foot cabin cruiser onto a trailer when he succumbed to environmental factors."
Authorities said the body was recovered in less than 10 feet of water and then transported to Meigs County Coroner’s Office. The water was reportedly 66 degrees Fahrenheit at the time.
The TWRA said this marks the fifth boating-related death in Tennessee this year. The previous fatality reported by the agency involved a 19-year-old in Decatur County who was injured after leaving a boat on Easter Sunday.
No additional details were released about Sunday afternoon's incident.
