SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WKRN) — Spring Hill has grown quickly, and leaders want to hear community feedback on what direction they take as a city.

"When I moved here eleven years ago we were a population of 32,000," Dara Sanders, the city’s Development Services Director said during Monday’s Board of Mayor and Alderman meeting. "We are now nearly 65,000."

Now, city leaders are looking to create a 5-year long-range planning program to put together a vision for the future.

"A robust public input process is imperative for Spring Hill particularly given our size,” Sanders added.

First, the city plans to update Spring Hill Rising, which is the city's current development plan through 2040. The city also plans to create a map identifying different types of roadways and whether people usually drive, walk or bike on them.

They will also finalize a vision for the town center and any historic or culturally significant properties. Finally, the city plans to create a plan for major roadways, like Main Street, and what would happen to businesses and other buildings if Main Street is widened.

"All of these developments and stuff with neighborhoods getting approved — I'd like to still keep our land. I'd like to also see some more entertainment," Spring Hill resident James Wheatley told News 2. "If we're going to have a town with a bunch of people in it, we might as well have something to do, right? We don't have a bowling alley. We don't have anything. We have a movie theater and that's it."

This week, Sanders said the city will look into hiring a consultant to manage community engagement so they can hear from as many Spring Hill residents as possible.
