NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A new music venue is taking shape in Wedgewood-Houston.
But with parking already a challenge, some neighbors are wondering how the area will handle thousands of concertgoers.
AJ Capital Partners broke ground on the "Wedgewood Village" in November. The state-of-the-art music venue is located off Chestnut Street and will have 4,500 seats. For those walking by, the venue has started to take shape.
"With my constituents, they will be very happy to have Chestnut fully opened again," Metro Councilmember for District 17, Terry Vo, said. "For me, I am looking forward to the walkability."
Residents have said it's more than just a concert hall; it could bring new life to the neighborhood.
"It's a music venue, but it's a very flexible music venue, so you can almost think of it as like a mini convention center, if you will," Wedgewood-Houston resident Earnest Morgan said. "So there will be many opportunities to program that in all these different ways."
The venue will have two floors of underground parking, but some residents worry that may not be enough.
"There are some assumptions that we may not have enough parking because they think about the capacity of that facility," Morgan said. "Then they think about the number of spaces that will be available on site."
As the neighborhood grows, spots to park for free are already scarce.
"I don't know that we have a parking problem; we have a pay-for-parking problem because we're not used to it," Morgan said. "Cities the size of Nashville and how we are growing — there's going to be some behavioral changes."
Vo told News 2 she's working with the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure, developers and residents to plan traffic flow and parking options.
"Walkability and transit is going to look different, and that's why I really want to emphasize carpool, bike, take the bus, take WeGo," Vo said. "We are improving transit all throughout District 17."
Vo will host a community meeting next Thursday at 6 p.m. at Live Nation's office to discuss traffic in Wedgewood-Houston with NDOT.
"We look forward to just opening our streets back up after the construction is complete," Vo said.
