NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Some Hermitage residents are fed up with construction trucks cutting through their neighborhood and speeding, causing safety concerns.

Residents in one neighborhood near Hickory Hill Drive have witnessed a lot of growth, which means there's also been a lot of construction traffic. Metro Councilmember Jordan Huffman, whose district encompasses the neighborhood, said lately there have been numerous complaints about speeding construction traffic.

"At the end of the day, the speed limit on both of these roads [is] 25 miles per hour," Huffman said. "The speeds that I've personally witnessed have been exceeding that by far."

"I was made aware by email and phone call by many constituents that reached out, concerned with the overall safety and wellbeing of this area," Huffman added.

Huffman told News 2 that he had reached out to the company about residents' concerns.

"They indicated that the drivers themselves get paid by the load, so they probably were pushing it a little bit and moving forward, they're looking to tamp down on that," Huffman said.

Huffman added that the Metro Nashville Police Department was increasing patrols in the area to help protect residents as they drive or enjoy evening walks.

Neighbors who spoke to News 2 expressed hope that the traffic would die down once the construction ends. Additionally, News 2 has reached out to the developer for comment, but as of publication, there's been no response.
