NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — At least two men were arrested after a soccer rally took over Broadway Thursday night.
Football fans are in Music City to watch the FIFA Club World Cup match at GEODIS Park Friday night featuring LA FC v. Esperance Sportive de Tunisie.
Around 10:30 p.m., a group of between 400 to 500 fans marched down Broadway and stopped at the flagpoles at the end of the roadway at the Cumberland River.
The crowd shut down the roadway without permission and ignored officers demands to to divert to Second Avenue toward Commerce Street, according to Metro police.
According to court documents, 43-year-old Moez Hammi shot off fireworks into the large crowd. Officers noted the smoke placed the crowd in "imminent danger and serious bodily injury."
Hammi was booked into the Metro jail and charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon and felony aggravated riot. His bond was set at $10,000.
Metro police reported 25-year-old Mohamed Baccouche also set off fireworks within the crowd. When officers went to detain him, Baccouche reportedly shoved and officer and ran away. Officers had to perform a "controlled takedown" to take Baccouche into custody, according to court documents.
Baccouche was booked into the Metro jail and charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, felony assault on an officer and felony aggravated riot. His bond was set at $16,000.
The march was reportedly organized by soccer fans on social media.
No additional information was immediately released.
