NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A loaded gun was found at Maplewood High School in the Inglewood neighborhood of Nashville Tuesday morning.
The firearm was detected as a 17-year-old student went through the weapons detection system upon arrival, according to the spokesperson for Metro Nashville Public Schools.
The student said he believed it was his laptop that caused the alert, but school staff searched his backpack and located the weapon, according to Metro police.
The student denied he owned the gun and reportedly refused to answer how it came into his possession. He was taken into custody by a school resource officer without incident.
He was charged with bringing a gun on school property and juvenile weapon possession.
There is no indication the student intended to use the weapon at school, added the spokesperson.
No additional information was immediately released.
