Description

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Investigators with the Nashville Fire Department classified the cause of a fire at a Bellevue apartment complex as "undetermined."

A fire was reported at Slate Apartment Homes just before 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 16. Though crews worked defensively as flames spread, by 2 p.m., firefighters were performing salvage and overhaul to put out the fire.

In a Tuesday press release, the NFD said that "significant structural damage and collapse within the building," made some areas inaccessible to fully investigate.

While the fire originated in the area near a dryer unit, investigators found no conclusive evidence to confirm the dryer itself as the cause.

"The dryer mentioned during the original dispatch of the fire was removed by suppression crews during the incident and appeared largely undamaged," the press release added. "Investigators observed clothes inside the unit that were unaffected, the plug and rubber insulator intact, and minimal exterior damage from heat or fire."

As such, investigators said the fire could have started in the wall cavity because of lint, electrical issues or another cause. However, investigators added that there's no definitive evidence to pinpoint a single source of the fire.
