GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — An iconic landmark in Middle Tennessee is on track to receive a major makeover.
The entrance to RiverGate Mall, once grand, has been called an eyesore by some in Nashville. Decades ago, people used to travel from across the Volunteer State to shop there. Now, the site has lost some of its popularity to online shopping.
On Tuesday, the Office of Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell announced an agreement with developer Merus, LLC to redevelop the 57-acre site. The redevelopment would feature everything from townhomes to retail and even some improvements to public infrastructure.
"[There's been] a lot of rebirth in that area. You know, the area's kind of gotten hot recently. There's a lot of development in the Madison area — residential," the City of Goodlettsville's Planning Director, Addam McCormick, said.
Goodlettsville commissioners will vote on a proposed rezoning for the site of the RiverGate Mall Thursday. Additionally, Metro's Industrial Development Board will hold a public meeting to consider the economic impact plan and development agreement to the Metro Council on May 14.
