SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — "Blake reached out to me a few days after the flood and said that she wanted to come down from Tennessee," explained Susan Burns with Kerrville Pets Alive. "And "I said, 'That's a really long trip. Are you sure that you want to do that?',".

Blake Nutter, founder of A Nutter Cat Rescue in Shelbyville, said that after seeing pictures of the devastation in Texas, she felt compelled to help.

"My home state is Texas," said Nutter. "I just needed to be here."

She connected with Kerrville Pets Alive and, with a friend alongside her, embarked on the 16-hour journey to flood-devastated Texas.

"It's horrific out there," said Nutter. "It's shocking."

The group of women from both shelters has been walking through the debris, searching for animals and specific pets families are requesting help finding.

With the influx of animals at the Kerrville shelter, eight cats will now call Tennessee home. They are on their way to A Nutter Cat Rescue!

"Tennessee has a treat coming for them," said Burns.

Some of the cats have special needs, including blindness.

You can find information on adoption, fostering, and volunteering here.

"Please reach out to us," said Nutter. "It would be great to have that help. We just know we can do it and and give them a happy update in this horrible, this horrible time that they're going through."
