MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) — A new mixed-use development is making its way to Wilson County after being approved by the Mt. Juliet Planning Commission.
Almost four months later, that development is stirring up issues with neighbors. Mt. Juliet residents are concerned that the new Elliott Reserve property will overtake the nature of their land.
The Mt. Juliet Board of Commissioners approved the mixed-use Elliott Reserve development back in March. The plan calls for 64 townhomes and 51,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space.
After tweaking the ordinance, the planning and zoning commission told the developer to "preserve as many trees as possible."
The dozen tweaks to the ordinance included beefing up buffers around the project, no blasting within 100 feet of existing structures, issuing a two-hour notice to neighbors before blasting and contributing to road improvements throughout the project.
Mt. Juliet resident Stefanie Beemer said that it has not been the case as of late. Beemer said the construction has cleared several trees and bushes and there's been no erosion control. Beemer wants better policies in place to hold construction projects like these accountable.
"We brought this up last year," Beemer said. "We just want to have responsible infrastructure in place before you keep approving all these developments, and they're not doing it."
News 2 reached out to the Mt. Juliet Planning Commission for a statement from one of the developers, Summit Realty Group. News 2 also reached out to the partner of the development, Nichols Vale, and is still waiting to hear back.
