NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A major road closure is about to hit South Nashville.

East Thompson Lane will be shut down from July 20 - 22 while railroad crews perform maintenance work on the railroad crossing. The road will be fully closed with no lanes open during this time.

Metro Councilmember Ginny Welsch said she was just given the heads up yesterday and wants to spread the word for people to make alternate plans.

Starting Sunday, East Thompson Lane will shut down from Glenrose Avenue to Wimpole Drive near the railroad tracks.

The closure will last three days while CSX crews make railroad repairs.

Welsch is asking everyone who drives through the area to make plans now.

"Look for an alternate route right now and figure out a way to get where you need to go to just completely avoid that area. The worst that will happen is that people don't pay attention and get stuck in some sort of backup where you're going to have to turn around and make a U-turn and go the other direction," Welsch said.

Officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department will be in there area during the closure window to help drivers with detours.

Drivers will be able to pull onto Wimpole Drive and onto Currey Road to turn around.
