GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Goodlettsville leaders are putting tax dollars toward a new traffic flow plan.

That plan is for pedestrian and traffic improvements for Goodlettsville's Moss-Wright Park.

The City of Goodlettsville is digging into its Parks and Recreation Master Plan yet again to enhance local parks in the area.

This time, the city was approved for a $1.1 million grant from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, and the city is matching that grant to help them complete the project.

City of Goodlettsville Senior Public Services Director Sarah Jennings said the $2 million project will allow the city to address key issues outlined in its Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

"We're really excited about this opportunity," Jennings said. "Putting taxpayer dollars towards a grant that matches taxpayer dollars, we're able to grow our dollars and grow the project."

Leaders are splitting the project into two different phases to hit the main key points of traffic recirculation and connectivity that would make the biggest difference for the park.

The traffic changes will include two-way traffic within certain areas of the park, an added roundabout to keep traffic flowing, and a beginning and end trail for walkers and bikers. Goodletsville leaders are excited to address these key issues to make it safer for park patrons to travel through the park.

"This is just going to start the process for us as we continue to work through our master plan and continue to look at areas of Moss-Wright Park that we can either revitalize or work better to develop," Jennings said. "This addresses those key issues first, and it's going to allow us to look towards the future of Moss-Wright Park and what else we can do."

There will be areas and sections of the park that will close throughout construction, but city officials said the park will not shut down completely.
