NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A woman is facing several charges after she was involved in a head-on collision Wednesday morning that injured her two children and another driver.
According to a release from the Metro Nashville Police Department, 35-year-old Karlisha Norwood was reportedly driving a 2011 Nissan Sentra when she was involved in the crash Wednesday around 8:15 a.m. on Harding Pike near Percy Warner Boulevard.
Investigators believe Norwood was driving eastbound on Harding Pike and was "weaving in and out of traffic," before she crossed over the double yellow lines into the westbound lanes where she hit a pickup truck head-on.
Norwood's 2-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter were taken to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Both children were in child safety seats. Norwood was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she is in critical/stable condition, according to MNPD.
Police said the pickup truck driver was treated following the crash and released.
Norwood told officers she had taken prescription medication before the crash occurred, and a search warrant was obtained to draw blood in which the results are pending, police said.
Once released from the hospital, Norwood will face two counts of vehicular assault, child endangerment, aggravated child abuse, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, driving under the influence and driving without insurance.
