Octogenarian Stuck in a Tree, Firefighters Come to the Rescue in White House
WHITE HOUSE, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) — It was an unusual call for firefighters in White House on Friday afternoon after an older gentleman found himself stuck high in a tree when his bucket truck broke down.
According to the White House Community Volunteer Fire Department, the man — believed to be in his 80s — was using his bucket truck while working around his property off Highway 25 when the lift suddenly lost power, leaving him stranded about 35 feet in the air.
Neighbors and helpers reportedly tried to jump-start the equipment, but it just wouldn’t fire up. After more than an hour stuck above the ground, the decision was made to call in the fire department.
Firefighters from both the White House Community Volunteer Fire Department and the City of White House Fire Department responded to the scene. Using an extension ladder, crews safely reached the man and helped him down.
Officials tell Smokey Barn News the man was in good spirits but “tired and ready to come down” after spending roughly an hour and a half suspended above the ground.
No injuries were reported. Crews described the rescue as smooth and lighthearted — and the gentleman was all smiles as he made his way safely down the ladder.
