FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) — Going out to lunch will soon be much easier in Franklin, courtesy of a new transit option.
The city's new bus plan will take people to a popular lunch spot, thanks to a new route expected to start in September.
The route will run from the downtown Franklin transit center to The Factory at Franklin—and all for free.
According to city officials, the idea was originally borne of a desire to offer city employees access to restaurants when the new city hall opens.
Workers won't have the same walkable options as they did in the old location, but they will be right next to the transit station.
The Franklin Transit Authority liked the idea, but also opened up the availability to the general public.
FTA officials said they hope many people will use the free resource, and they're looking forward to seeing how well it works.
"As a pilot, this is really testing to see behavior change as a result of the increased frequency and the reduced cost—being free—to see how people change their commute behaviors," FTA Multimodal Coordinator Max Baker told News 2.
The new route is expected to debut Sept. 15 and will operate from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to FTA.
