ANTIOCH, Tenn. (WKRN) — Authorities say a 37-year-old woman died after she was hit by a train Friday evening in Antioch.
The Metro Nashville Police Department said officers responded to the incident at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Hickory Hollow Parkway between Bell Road and Una Antioch Pike.
According to officials, the train's conductor allegedly told police that he saw two people sleeping on the tracks, adding that a man tried to pull a woman from the tracks, but was unsuccessful.
The conductor reportedly applied the brakes but was unable to stop. Police said the 37-year-old woman was found dead by officers in an embankment near the tracks. Meanwhile, the man, who was also seen sleeping on the tracks, left before officers arrived.
Metro police said efforts are underway to notify the woman's family. No additional information was released.
