MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) -- A man wanted for at least 19 charges across Middle Tennessee was taken into custody after Mt. Juliet's license plate recognition system spotted a stolen tag Saturday.
The Mt. Juliet Police Department said its Guardian Shield LPR program notified officers on Saturday, Aug. 9 about a Ford Escape displaying a tag stolen the day before from Williamson County. The alert came in as the vehicle left the interstate and traveled onto Belinda Parkway.
Authorities said they quickly found the SUV near Providence Trail and initiated a traffic stop when it pulled into Two Rivers Ford, but the driver ran from the vehicle. Two officers chased after the suspect and quickly apprehended him.

According to officials, the 54-year-old Nashville man not only had crack cocaine, but he was driving on a revoked license and wanted out of three counties for multiple felony warrants.
More specifically, law enforcement said the man was wanted for eight charges in Nashville related to shoplifting, mail theft, forgery, theft of property, and failure to appear; 10 charges in Sumner County involving theft, mail theft, and criminal simulation; and shoplifting in Wilson County.
"While we may never know this man’s intentions in Mt. Juliet, we are grateful that our license plate readers alerted us to the stolen plate—leading to the capture of a suspect with a significant history of theft," MJPD wrote on social media. "This is yet another example of how advanced technology and the swift, strategic response of our officers help keep our community safe."
No additional details have been released about Saturday afternoon's incident, including the identity of the driver who was arrested.
