Description

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — In light of dangerous heat in Davidson County, the Nashville Office of Emergency Management announced that officials would conduct heat patrols Sunday.

The heat patrols will be conducted around Music City from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., with officials primarily focusing on areas where vulnerable populations tend to gather. A press release from the OEM said that volunteers would hand out cold water, towels and other resources.

More heat patrols could be conducted throughout the week as high heat and humidity remain in the forecast. The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Davidson County Sunday.

The OEM reminded people not to leave children or pets in hot cars even for short periods as temperatures can rise quickly and lead to life-threatening situations. Additionally, the office encouraged you to check on any older adults or other vulnerable individuals within your community. A phone call or visit could make a difference for someone without reliable access to air conditioning.

Other tips from the OEM included:

  • Drinking enough water even if you don't feel thirsty
  • Avoiding strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, which is typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Learning to recognize the signs of heat illness, which can look like everything from heavy sweating to dizziness and nausea.
