NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- A convicted felon was taken into custody after reportedly leading the Metro Nashville Police Department on a pursuit while a baby was in the vehicle.
Joseph Tibbs, 24, was on probation for multiple crimes, including drugs and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. The MNPD has previously arrested the Nashville man for swiping mail from mailboxes, washing checks, and writing those checks to himself.
On Tuesday, June 24, authorities said they spotted Tibbs behind the wheel of a black Toyota Avalon, driving at a high rate of speed over speed humps in the middle of Green Street in North Nashville.
According to the arrest document, there was a woman in the passenger seat holding a 1-year-old child in her lap rather than a car seat.
The vehicle allegedly ran stop signs and drove recklessly, so the MNPD launched its helicopter to follow the speeding car. After about six miles, officers deployed a spike strip around Ashland City Highway and Briley Parkway, which is where they took Tibbs into custody without further incident.
Law enforcement reportedly charged the 24-year-old with evading arrest and aggravated child endangerment for putting the child in "grave danger with the immediate risk of serious bodily injury."
Tibbs was booked into the Metro Jail under a $20,000 bond ahead of his court appearance on Thursday, June 26. According to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office, he was released just after 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25.
News 2 reached out to the Tennessee Department of Correction to see how this arrest affects Tibbs' probationary status, but we have yet to hear back.
