NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A major event is just a few signatures away from coming to Nashville — the Special Olympics USA Games.
Special Olympics North America has recommended host cities for the next two USA Games: Cleveland for 2030 and Nashville for 2034.
Both cities submitted "outstanding, heartfelt bids that emphasized creating an unforgettable experience for Special Olympics athletes, Unified partners, families and supporters," according to a release.
The event draws thousands from all over the country — and some events air nationally on ABC and ESPN. Vanderbilt University has signed on to be the host campus for athletes and some events. And there's a buy-in from Nashville's professional sports teams.
Over the next few months, Special Olympics Tennessee reported it will partner with the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp and Vanderbilt University to finalize an agreement.
"Nashville is the perfect city to host this monumental event for over 4,000 Special Olympics athletes from across the country to compete in over 17 sports. This city is known for hospitality, a vibrant culture and dedication to making everyone feel welcome. We believe the city will provide the perfect stage for these athletes to shine," explained Adam Germek with Special Olympics Tennessee.
Team Tennessee is currently gearing up for the 2026 USA Games in Minneapolis and looking ahead to the 2030 Games in Cleveland.
