MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit of the Murfreesboro Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division have launched an investigation into what they describe as a "suspicious death" after a body was discovered in a tow lot Thursday.

Officers responded to a call from a towing company on Southpointe Court at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday after employees found the body. The employees were reportedly preparing to place a mechanic lien on the vehicle because no one had claimed it.

The vehicle was thought to be abandoned and had been towed from the parking lot of the Walmart on Old Fort Parkway on April 5.

Authorities requested that the medical examiner perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death and how long the man may have been deceased.
