MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) — The 2024 Annual Report for the Fire Department of Mt. Juliet contained several key insights.
The report said that 56 fire operational permits were issued and 37 fire suppression permits were issued. Assistant Chief Fire Marshal Brent Blamires told News 2 that officials have seen more new construction in the area, meaning more permits. The addition of a new inspector has helped officials stay on top of regular inspections as well.
"We haven't seen an uptick in fire investigations or fires, which is good," Blamires said. "It's best for us to keep them low and we're aiming to keep them low again this year as well."
In 2024, the Fire Marshal's Office participated in more than 100 community education events, including a STEM Night at Stoner Creek Elementary School. There, officials promoted messages about fire safety via coloring books. Officials also visited the Del Webb community and educated elderly citizens about fire safety.
This year, Blamires Mt. Juliet is beginning what they call a "pre-plan" on businesses in the area. The pre-plan includes finding out where all fire hazards could be in a building and bookmarking it on a map. That way, if the fire department gets called to that business, they can determine the locations of possible areas of focus.
"All of our engine companies on each shift are going out there and they're doing a pre-plan on the businesses of Mt. Juliet just to make them aware and also, [it's] another way to keep the community safe," Blamires said.
Blamires said that if you need your building inspected, or if you would like a free smoke detector, you can contact the Fire Department of Mt. Juliet. You can also follow this link for more fire safety tips.
